Mihin Lanka, the low-cost airline flying out of Colombo Bandaranaike International Airport, Sri Lanka, has started direct flights to Jakarta, Indonesia, and Dhaka, Bangladesh, becoming the first and only airline to operate direct flights to these citi
On Saturday, Mihin Lanka started flying to the Maldives as well. The new routes will be serviced three times a week by the new Airbus A-321 aircraft acquired last Wednesday from Ireland. CEO of Mihin Lanka, Kapila Chandrasena told local media that, “This is a new aircraft manufactured in 2007 and it would be operated on a dry lease.” He said that both Jakarta-Colombo and Dhaka-Colombo flights are running to capacity as passengers are taking connections to Middle East from Colombo.
The aircraft, according to Chandrasena, is one of the new aircraft in Sri Lanka, and was acquired with safety in mind. He also mentioned that Mihin Lanka also serves on-board meals for long distance flights and onboard duty free services for the three new routes.
Earlier in June, the Sri Lankan Treasury stated that Mihin Lanka will be integrated to SriLankan as its ‘budget carrier.’
Mihin Lanka operates budget flights to many cities in neighbouring India and cities dotting the Arabian Sea.
